What is the accuracy of GNSS positioning on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro and why is it important: The DJI Mavic 4 Pro uses a tri-band GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) system that includes GPS, Galileo, and BeiDou to ensure precise and stable positioning anywhere in the world. This combination of satellite systems significantly improves positioning accuracy, especially in environments where a single satellite constellation could be affected by interference or limited coverage. Generally speaking, the margin of error under optimal conditions can be reduced to a few centimeters thanks to this technology.

Accurate GNSS positioning is vital for numerous automated functions of the Mavic 4 Pro, such as precise hovering, intelligent Return to Home (RTH), and executing programmed flight paths. For example, during an RTH mission, the drone uses its recorded takeoff coordinates and the current GNSS signal to return to the exact starting point, avoiding landing errors or unwanted detours. Furthermore, in flights where the visual signal is temporarily lost, GNSS positioning allows for continuous satellite control.

The system is also essential for photogrammetric tasks, technical inspections, or high-value recordings, where every centimeter counts. A deviation of just a few meters could result in an out-of-focus plane, a collision with nearby structures, or serious errors in mapping surveys. Therefore, GNSS precision is not just a technical convenience, but a necessity for professional operations.

To maintain this precision, it is crucial to fly in areas with good sky visibility, avoid areas with high electromagnetic interference, and allow the drone to acquire at least 10 satellites before takeoff. It is also recommended to regularly update the firmware and satellite assistance data (QuickTransfer and A-GPS) through the DJI Fly app. These practices guarantee constant, secure and highly reliable positioning.
